Question about classic maps that been remade

Are there all?

I have seen so far:

Walls

Hourglass

Islands

Field

Mesa

I heared that Under will come later on ... and complex or canyon (forget which)

So will there be:

Complex?

Canyon?

City?

Volcano?

Complex was always fun, no BD ... so SBH always was dangerous ... GDI bombarding with its firepower while nod sneaked in ... the absolute classic C&C_mode

Canyon, never was a map i liked a lot ... but seeing what you have accomplished ... could be good ... at the end i would say it would not be missed that much

City, that was a fun map I think ... with the bridge, the stank-hole under the bridge behind the warfac/hand ... the straight sight for snipers ...

City also could look very very awesome if it would be reimagined through you, even tho I would not change it too much

(Ofcourse I talk about Flying)

Volcano, was an ok-ish map ...the cave was kinda cool eyrcatcher (Imagine with the UDK) ... like Complex very classic C&C_mode ... I would love to see it again, mainly because of its high eyecandy potential if it is in your hands (Magama, Cave, a Canyon)

Sorry if that was already somewhere, my search did not bring up a matching result

As of "right now", from what "I know", no.

Only the original Ren map then "ours".

Forgive me, I get Complex and Canyon confused sometimes, I think the starts of Complex are there.

I know City has been attempted, but nothing has been solidified yet.

I loved Volcano (and city), I keep trying to get the mappers on that one (those two). ;)

I see many possibility with pretty visually with "going through a volcano".

(...)

I feel another verbal joust brewing.

Lete sum it up for everyone to save time.

"I want Glacier!"

"No we won't. It bad"

"But....but.....original lay-out! Weird bridges! Tons of entrances!"

"No. It bad. Besides, no authorisation from maker"

"But(...)"

ETC.

Back on real topic. I thought most would be left in Renegade except city if you could find someone to create and actually finish it?

Yea, sorry. I am trying to stay out of a trap by saying we will have it by "X". I just know we want at least the originals from Ren and then whatever mappers want.

So one of the goals, before we stop working on RenX, would be to have all of the original maps.

Personally, I do not see anything standing in the way of getting all the remakes in, other than time. :S

Also one of the goals before the end is to have modding tools for RenX. With those, any maps that modders/community feels were "left out" or should be in, they could pick up from where we left off and add them.

Sounds like glacier will be made in the distant future then.

Only thing i'm concerned about is the amount of walking paths in RenX's maps. I've seen an AGT Vs Ob in Field once... Absolutely no idea how that happened... If you can't sneak in, both teams are hopeless in such stalemate situations.

Have 4 guys from front and tunnels all run out at once in different directions. Works best for GDI.

Have the guys from the front path run first, they are guranteed to die but will turn the attention from the AGT the best.

Generally, those will end up being infantry only matches until time out, or in marathon cases the perfect canidate for sudden death and vote-mapend.

I never liked score win. Sounds like farming.

Killing is always better than farming, and S&D is always better than TDM. That is my philosophy. Then again, when enough people feel the same, they band together and make their own servers and use !qban on anyone that comes in complaining its not the normal. Thank god for those people who form the marathon server community.

I like Marathon too but without vehicle shells (no more massing 20 tanks) or endgame beacon, I feel in general marathon games will last a lot longer. But as long as the server is stable for extended periods of time, Marathon should still be enjoyable.

Plus, new players are more likely to play timed matches as they would want to experience all the maps quickly.

are you comparing s&d and tm to timed games and mara?

=////

I did, and then followed through with my premiss.

Did you just dismiss my comparison solely on the grounds that it referenced Call of Duty? Not my favorite game ever, but it had a place once upon a time back in CoD1 and CoD4. If you remembered the stick of fuse-tnt and the artillery cannon you had to place it on, you would know what I mean.

Anyway, again, the premiss is one targets "kill and destruction" as the main thing to do, while the other encourages territory to appeal to a score system. I dislike farming, I like a game with an absolute winner, not the guy who scored more, but the guy responsible for base-destruction.

It is base destruction no matter how long it takes when it comes to marathon, and that is what I prefer to back. There are enough numbers willing to support that. We are unified in support, and outsiders cannot stop it and their opinion unnecessary to keep marathon open. Marathon will remain self sufficient and sovereign, and equal citizen in this game. I understand there are reasons for time limits, I hope you understand there are reasons for seeking a win by decisive events.

Hey, it is better to compare it to chess. There are speed chess tournaments, because someone given enough time to think of every move will easily do better and someone able to think of good moves in less time is someone more sharpened competitively, and then there are standard chess tournaments, because sometimes people find interest in no other outcome except a defeat achieved by complete annihilation.

you compared two different game modes.

timed and mara is basically the same game mode, a better comparison would be s&d with a time limit and one without one.

most people who play renegade would rather play a rotation of maps instead of been stuck in an under game for 6 hours where you can't even leave your own base, specially people who can only play for a few hours at a time.

Welcome to "Renegade Marathon," the gamemode where everyone fucks around and the points don't matter. That's right, the points don't matter, just like the plot line of a porno film.

Drew Carey was on to something

I have no idea if you're joking or not (i really don't, no sarcasm intended), but i always find it funny when someone says points don't matter in marathon. If you even slightly think about it, you know points = credits, and if you're playing a marathon game where both teams have no ref and/or pp, guess which team has a higher chance of winning...

More examples can be given but i think you get my point on this one.

On topic, credits earned by points didn't help in marathon unless donation was enabled in the server, or if one player was able to buy vehicles for the rest of the team, since being only able to buy one advanced infantry or one beacon at a time usually wouldn't be a gamebreaker unless there was REALLY good team coordination.

If I had the time, I loved playing marathon games.

I remember playing an 8 hour match on Field. That was one of the most fun games I ever played in Renegade.

I mean, timed matches were good in their own rights. But you just can't compare the amount of teamwork and strategy that come out of the desperation of wanting to end a match that's going on for 4+ hours.

From my small experience in marathon a lot of maps also ended by one side getting bored. The reason a rush succeeded was not always because of great teamwork from one side but also from a lack of concentration due to boredom on the other side. But as I said my experience was limited as I clearly usually played games with a time limit.

It takes a certain player to play marathon. I just think those wanting to play should be able.

I mean, this game is based on getting to play what you want. Why not play battlefield? Because you hate battlefield and love this? Then enjoy your right to play this, while I enjoy my right to marathon.

when I bring my clan into this game, I'll do aow. If they like the game and start to want conclusive games, I'll share Mara with them.

marathon is for the casual player. Aow is for the competitive player. Either player can decide to play in both, but the competitive player will find more competition in the aow server, and the marathon player will find more casual playing there. Don't argue that unless you've been both types of players, please, because I know it to be true through my 12 years of renegade.

Yeah I always noticed and was bothered with that. I see ren balance around points but base killing power now balanced...

well I never agreed with others on that. If someone wins on points in a short time it usually feels like cheese struggle.

I'd prefer hour or two for maps like field, and maybe 35 for volcano and complex.

I really hated aow, to me it just felt like an arty/vehicle whore the whole game to reach the most points.

Marathon felt like it had much more strategies. Trying to mass med tanks for a double rush or apc/sbh/nuke rush.

Great fun, always played on the modded servers of Black-Cell.net

Massing is totally unrelated to the game mode. It is related to the amount of players and those buggy wrecks.

well, not entirely. taking into account you need a lot of cash to mass a decent amount of tanks, the match must have been going on for at leat 30 minutes. and the bigger the room, the more vehicles you will need to successfully rush, which means more money is needed.

only in small matches, AOW and Marathon could be considered the same when it comes to massing.

The fact that abusing the shell as not counting in the vehicle limit is needed in order to win the game sometimes says enough.....

I remember when I went a whole month of trying hard to win in marathon. I had a 90% winning rate by myself. Meaning I was never on ts and never had anyone join to help me out. Just me by myself impacting the game had me win 90% of the games I played. I kept track through the online Ren ladder and it was something like 73/81 when you added all 5 of my nicknames together. I mean...clearly the competition isn't too high since my win % in a competitive aow server was usually ~65 lol.

There are some, but the more competitive players play in aow servers. The extra element of time means that for one, you'll likely get more games in. For two, you can't just let a team sit in the field and pointwhore buildings while you go and try to stealth rush their base. You actually have to stop them from doing this most of the time, because points actually matter. Marathon is all or nothing in that you either kill a building oe not, and that is what your rushes are based of off from a success or failure standpoint. In aow, you're rewarded for even hitting the buildings either way, and so the enemy team cannot camp, but has to actually try to push out. That extra element makes it more competitive to players who prefer the competition.

I wouldn't say that marathon is casual. It's less urgent of a game type compared to aow, but definitely not casual.

A casual game, by definition, is a game you can pick up and put down at any time without any impact on progress or overall standing. Angry Birds, for example, is a casual game. You can just stop playing it midway through and nothing of any value would happen either way.

But in marathon, if you stop playing then your team could lose a building that you may have been able to protect. Or someone else could have been able to protect if you weren't hogging the player spot in the server.

In the overall standing of Renegade in general, however, it's probably one of the more casual FPS games out there. There is no progression outside of leaderboards. So if you don't care about things like that then it makes no difference if you win a match, lose a match or quit a match. You can join when you want, do what you want and leave when you want without any overall lasting implications to your player's progression (since player progression is handled on a round to round basis.)

I afk repair all the time in marathon and still end up winning the game lol

Casual literally just means relaxed and unconcerned by the way. I didn't say it was a casual game - I said marathon is for the casual player, relative to the comparison I was making to aow players who are more competitive players, on average.
