Jam
1UP.com have posted this really long story about what happened with EA's ambitious cancelled collaboration with Steven Spielberg known as LMNO. So what does this have to do with Command & Conquer? It turns out that a couple of years ago EALA were working on a real time strategy/first person shooter hybrid set in the Command & Conquer Generals universe known as "Project Camacho". Here's the quoted paragraph that appears on page 4 of the article. EALA had another big project on the table: a real-time strategy/first-person shooter hybrid set in the Command & Conquer Generals universe known as "Project Camacho," named after the president from Idiocracy. And for financial reasons, then EALA general manager Mike Verdu -- who took over for Young as studio head, while former Westwood head Louis Castle (pictured with Spielberg, above) took over Young's Blueprint group -- had to choose between the two, so he cancelled Project Camacho and moved most of its team onto LMNO.An RTS/FPS set in the Generals universe is something I thought they would never do. It feels like a "way out there" concept. You can see this paragraph right here. If your interested, you can read the full Story Behind LMNO and it's cancellation. The article covers a lot of what has happened internally at EALA over the past couple of years. So I guess we can add this "Project Camacho" to list of other cancelled C&C games like Renegade 2, Continuum, Tiberian Incursion (2002) and of course Tiberium (2009).http://forums.cncnz.com/index.php?showtopic=14450
PermaGrin
****ing EA with the C&C name. All the good ideas the cancel and all the ****ball quick money games they push out the door. They wont put out another FPS C&C game (mixed with RTS or not), but are sure have no problem crapping all over the original RTS over and over. R315r4z0r
Oh, that makes sense now, actually. I think it was in an RA3 Limited Edition special feature where Verdu was being interviewed and said the next C&C game was heavily multiplayer based. I always assumed he was talking about C&C4, but I think that it's multiplayer focus was just a coincidence.
