  1. In regards to the last two posts, I disabled dynamic shadows and it still occurred, but I did not restart the game. At least some settings appear to need a restart to take effect (v-sync, at least in the case of disabling it, is one), so maybe that's why. I followed that up by lowering texture detail, and then it went away. So, it seems to be either dynamic shadows or texture quality above what the medium overall preset sets it to, as changing only those two settings made it go away. It's not dynamic lights though, as I just turned that off and restarted and it still occurs.
  2. Ah, no, I haven't played Whiteout, but thanks for the information. If City isn't really planned, that'd be a shame, and I'd wonder what the issues were. It was one of my favorite maps.
  3. I only played on Jelly so far, which usually neared being full most of the time, so maybe. I know one time I crashed out (but a roommate didn't), the server seemingly lost near half it's players by time I joined back, and then filled again later, but nobody mentioned much of it. As for my 256GB SSD, I've 150GB free. Next I play and it happens, I'll post the logs over to that thread.
  4. With the game having just released (well, publicly in Beta), I figured I'd offer some of my feedback as well. First things first, my initial impressions were positive. I went in trying not to focus on small details or with a purist sense of everything having to be a given way, but rather on one thing; does it feel like Renegade? Almost totally. It doesn't feel like Renegade did in 2004 nor does it bring the Nostalgia back the same, but it still feels like the same gameplay. You guys hit it, perhaps not perfectly or without flaw, but you did. There's some new things that I like yet hate (airstrikes), and there's some stability issues (at least for me) and slight other small bugs, but it definitely felt like Renegade, even with some nice improvements, and at least so far, there's been a lot of players. I hope this continues, and to anyone involved in making this a reality, congratulate yourself; this is a great landmark for the game/community of Renegade and even Command & Conquer as a whole. With that in mind, the following are some of my impressions of things that, without a better way of putting it, somewhat negatively jumped out to me, but largely don't detract from the overall state of Renegade-X. 1. Just starting up the game, I was met with an opening clip with overly loud music. Can this be lowered? 2. The default sound levels seem an ill fit. The biggest issue is that you can hardly hear the EVA announcements, which should be prominent. I dropped sound effects to 50%, music and ambient to 75%, and dialogue and EVA to 100%, and it seems better, but could still be improved. The radio commands still seem on the quiet side. I love the added immersion of the sounds of war going on, but the sound effects, especially in battle, are too loud and the EVA announcements and radio commands get drown out. 3. I love the Nod announcer, but the GDI EVA announcer could use a little more work. One thing in particular that jumps out is the way "GDI' is said. She says it too slowly and/or with too much emphasis on every letter, so it sounds a bit awkward. Otherwise, it's not entirely terrible, but it feels a little below par of that of Nod's (and I like that you went a male announcer; the Nod announcer for Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath is my favorite). 4. I am aware more maps are coming, and although I know many may dread some of the one I'm about to mention, I sort of expected Under, City, and/or Hourglass to make it in. I'm not disappointed that they didn't, mind you, especially if they are all planned; it's just that City was a big favorite if I remember right, and Under was a bit iconic/staple, as was Hourglass in some ways. I do have a question regarding maps. I know you have made and may make more original maps (or tweaked sequels in the case of Mesa II). Will you guys also try and recreate any of the fan-made maps from the original game (or will permission largely hinder this?), and if so, which ones and/or how will you decide? Glacier is one I'd like to see offhand, among others, for example.
  5. I haven't played Field yet but that looks to be the same thing happening.
  6. I must admit, I'm not a total fan of this new feature. In one example, this changes the dynamic of super-weapon beacons, as before, you'd have to cover it with armor/bodies on the spot and/or snipers from a distance, but now you can also just spot it with an airstrike from a distance and extra cover is all but guaranteed for a given time window. Overall, it seems to have a lower amount of counter-play. That's probably why those who dislike it do so. Maybe some of us should just try and adapt though. I do like seeing new stuff tried, but right now, it probably feels too frustrating for those it's used against. I would like to see the interaction with the player improved (namely, to enemies of those using it). As others have mentioned, it feels like more could be done to warn a player (better visual cues and/or EVA announcements) of one incoming. If a reason why many aren't fond of this is potentially low counter-play, this would help that.
  7. Was gonna ask the same.I'm not sure I'm part of the old or core group there (I guess it depends on who you ask), but before they closed, I definitely spent most of my time there as my home server. I wasn't too active on their website/forums/IRC though. Some may recognize me as H3llian07. I can't say I recognize your name though (I recognize the NXC tag though); was it different? I recall participating in one of the Black-Cell vs Jelly matches that Jelly hosted. Black-Cell was already closed by then, and I (and many other Black-Cell players, it seemed) moved more to Jelly. I sided with Black-Cell in those matches. I would love to see some of the old group, maybe even play on a Black-Cell server if it could be active enough. I notice their forums are still up but I'm not sure as to what their status is these days with the game. I stopped playing original Renegade years ago. (edit: they have a forum section for a Renegade X server but it's empty at the moment, and seeing some of the posts/names there took me back; would definitely jump back with them if they had a consistent play base when I went to play.)
  8. I hate to make my first few posts "me too" posts in threads about issues, because the game is otherwise great, but I've experienced the same twice, and another user an another PC playing with me had it happen once to them as well.
  9. This happens to me as well. Upon loading a new map, I almost always crash out (only a handful of times I haven't). I'm using a Core i5 2500K, 16GB RAM GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 256GB SSD with Windows 7 64-bit. Sometimes, I also have freezes, and if I alt+tab out for a few seconds and then bring the game back up (had it not crashed with an error message), it will unfreeze after another second or so. Had I been walking forward during the freeze, I will return ahead of where I was (seems the server presumes I was just walking forward during that frozen time). I am unsure of if that's related.
  10. I must admit, I preferred the old one as well.
  11. I have noticed a consistent occurrence where some spots become darker depending on distance and angle. Thus far, at least one map this occurs on is Walls, where some spots on the around the wall go almost Black. I haven't noticed it anywhere else, but I'm not sure if it exclusive to Walls. Here are some screenshots. This is how things looks normally. Here's how it looks moving closer. Notice the concrete near me has shifted almost Black on the half close to me (and this moves to cover the whole area once I step even closer). There are other spots on or around the walls it occurs at, another noticeable Black spot being on either side vehicle exit. However, most portions of the wall itself has this happen to them as well, only they don't go fully Black, but a darker Grey. My settings are about as they default at the Ultra settings. I tried playing with the Shadows, Dynamic Shadows, and Light Environment Shadows to no avail. This behavior does not occur on my other PC at the Medium setting preset (both PCs have nVidia GeForce graphics cards, in case it matters). I tried setting my PC to Medium too and it went away, and came back with the High preset. Specifically, leaving the preset at Medium and turning texture detail to High introduces the behavior again.
