If you can buy the game through Steam, then you should be able to activate that same game from a retail purchase on Steam without trouble.

I bought UT3 more or less as a result of this mod (a few weeks ago actually). My computer isn't high-end (1GB DDR2 667, 256MB graphics card w/ GDDR3 [ATi All-in-Wonder X1800 XL] and a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 [4800+]) but can run the game on highest settings minus vert sync and physics @ 1024x768.
