  1. I happen to like it. The fact that they even included Field makes me feel like it's 2002 and I just started playing Ren again. If you play the original occasionally on say, the Jelly server, that map gets really busy. Obviously few are on the fence, they love it or hate it.
  2. Clearly this all comes down to personal preference. By the time it matured, Renegade had a significant number of maps. Everyone likes something different, hence the variety. So, enjoy the maps you do like, and either get through the ones you don't like, or take a break for 20 minutes.
  3. The release is beautiful. I installed and ran it on my 3 year old Alienware M17x with a Mobile 5870 graphics chipset. With all settings maxed, I cap out at 60 FPS (VSYNC is on). Those optimizations worked wonders. Gameplay was extremely smooth, didn't experience a single crash, hiccup or stutter. The new maps add the much needed variety, and it will only get better from here. I'm excited to get back into playing Ren full time again. It was fun seeing Fobby out on the battlefield last night. However, I think we need to let the poor guy enjoy the game without hampering him with technical questions and suggestions. Lets keep that on the forums...just a thought.
  4. Yep Sydney does the same thing, randomly stops firing. If it were out of ammo it would automatically reload, so obviously not an ammo issue.
  5. This is another occurrence that is in fact in line with the original game. Stealth tanks commonly ran over troops, often without warning, as they are so quiet. To me, it's just part of the game. Sometimes I got run over, sometimes I was able to identify their close proximity and either move, or attack to draw my team's attention.
  6. Like Omega said, true to the original. Other than kicking someone, I don't think there's a realistic way to fix it. You weren't able to move aside? I was always able to find a position to hit the MCT with the repair gun, it's definitely big enough. The beam passing through other players would be odd, can't imagine how you'd do that because the gun can repair players as well as buildings.
  7. Ill agree with the colors. It was nice to know at a quick glance that a building had taken damage. While we are at it, I don't like the PT menu. At first I thought it was cool to see the 3d render of the troop or vehicle. Now, I just find it cumbersome. I liked the large tiles in the original. I know, we are all so used to the original, but lets face it, there was good reason they designed it as such.
  8. As another reference machine to prove your setup should be working well... Alienware M17x R2 Core i7 Q720 @ 1.6 GHz 8GB RAM PC3-10600 A single Radeon HD Mobility 5870 Windows 7 64-bit I can get 40FPS consistently in all maps if I have all settings on ULTRA. You should be fine. At most, like others are saying, graphics card upgrade. I prefer Nvidia myself, but this AMD card was the best offering at the time of purchase. I think we have proven here that AMD cards don't perform as well in Ren-X?
  9. Seen this as well...consistently. Obviously it doesn't do any harm unless you are trying to target enemies who are in a fight with friendlies, and you are trying to help from a distance.
  10. That's hilarious, reminds me of the original rts games when youd be able to produce enemy vehicles after stealing structures.
  11. Like Valor said, In X you sprint, the regular movement is actually the speed of the original game's running speed. The walking speed in original was like a painful slow motion crawl.
  12. I remember being able to do this on original c&c with certain maps, was pretty amusing to see.
  13. Ive had this occur and was unable to respawn whatsoever. I had to quit the game. However, it was fun to float around and see terrain off in the distance, unavailable on foot.
  14. I had this happen once, I wasn't even out in the battlefield yet...but it was only once so I didn't think much of it.
  15. The treads on the MRLS dont move in sync with the turrain it is driving on. The treads seem to move slower, giving the vehicle the appearance that it is sliding or skating.
  16. I can confirm this, cant recall what I was doing when it happened but will provide detail if it does again.
  17. At the end if the GDI grenader weapon reload animation, it sounds like the soldier spins the cartridge with his hand, but I dont see that happening visually.
  18. Well, regardless of what other games do, Renegade was always upper left for chat. Early PC games always had them in upper left....Quake, UT. Either way, the messages still go away too fast.
  19. I'm trying to remember how the original game looked. For some reason, I am having a problem distinguishing enemies from friendlies as well. I never had that problem before, will have to get out the old game and take a look.
  20. I think it's in regards to shaders or shadow effects, Ive gone through and disabled each effect to find the best performance mix and the problem disappears. I want to say it's the Directional Lightmaps, but now for some reason I cant disable that one feature, it keeps automatically enabling itself. I see that happen with VSYNC sometimes too. I have it enabled but screen tearing still occurs. What kind of video cards do you have? Just wondering if its and AMD problem, as that's what I run....oops nevermind I see posts above talking about Nvidia cards.
  21. Not so much bugs, just oddities... -The soldier images when choosing a new character, mainly the engineers, have a right hand/arm that looks a bit...deformed. The bend in the wrist looks unnatural and if I tried holding a gun like that...painful. -The MRLS treads don't move in sync with the ground. The vehicle moves along faster than the tread is moving, gives the appearance of the vehicle skating or sliding along. -The soldier machine gun can fire just a single shot if tapping the mouse button, as expected, but the sound continued to play for a split second even after that one shot is fired. -Climbing ladders is interesting. You can spin a full 360 degrees, and even shoot during any portion of the climb. -EVA notifications go on even when nowhere near the base, makes for more noise when it's not really necessary. -When the GDI grenadier reloads, it sounds like the soldier spins the cartridge before finishing the reload sequence, but there is no animation to go along with it.
  22. This entire thread is blasphemy.
  23. If you are not using Steam, fire up the Renegade-X Launcher. There's a box to enter name. Im sure there is an ini but I haven't investigated that.
  24. I see 542 guests browsing the forum, highest number ever. Nice to see the attention, and its only day 1. I want to see RenX live on for a long time. Hope those who are here trying a Renegade game for the first time accept that we are in open Beta, don't expect things to be perfect yet. Unfortunately the original Renegade was buggy even on full release, that didn't bode well.
  25. I noticed this too when I was trying to join a server while running the game. If you try to pick the server using the launcher, it will work correctly. I tried a few different servers, thinking maybe it was a full load of players, didn't seem to help...unless the player list was not refreshed...no refresh option I can see.
